That’s what I’m saying. When ultimately the images end up digital, doesn’t matter what the original medium was. Color neg is a path towards achieving the look I’m after. So I use it.

Wheels are the large format photographers best friend!

The archival properties of color neg film have never factored in for me. The images I use are scanned anyway so it’s a moot point for me. It’s easy to forget how many different films we once had at our disposal. For color work, 4x5 Portra 400 is about the only thing I use right now.

Was a huge fan of Fuji 400H. It did great job with mixed light. I’ve learned to make do with Portra 400. It’s slowly growing on me.

Processing variables can easily throw you off 5cc. Sounds like a dog chasing its tail.
I’ve been using Godox QTiii lights lately. Very pleased with them. Significantly more color stable than my Profoto, Speeds and Dynalite strobes. Build quality is also better than expected.

I enjoy mixed lighting sources. Especially on location. I’ll use dirty off color lights to add interest. Or gel strobes to match the ambient if I want a cleaner look. I’m constantly gelling, tinkering with white balance and cc filters. One of the reasons I still use color neg film, flexibility.

I’d say about half of my work is studio. As you know, no two brands of lights have identical color temps. Speedos make it interesting because they have the “cc” tubes you could get vs the standard tubes. Always thought they should only sell cc tubes. And yes, LED lights are inconsistent at best.

Really? It’s always better to get it right in camera. I’m constantly gelling lights.

Cool pose and camera angle!

Health care billing is completely messed up right now. I’ll sometimes get a collection notice for something I’ve never received a bill for. Always irritates me. Then I chuckle when I pay it knowing the provider has to needlessly share that with the collection company.

That sucks. Keep looking. They do show up used. Any of those four would be great.

For that matter, the last gen v700 and v750 are excellent. Very little changed with the 800 series. I’m still using my old 750. Extremely capable scanner.

In case anyone was curious 😁
An awesome camera!

The distortion is glorious! I admire your tenacity in stitching those together!

I always forget how cool and well built the M6 is. As soon as I pick it up I’m ready to toss a roll in it and go!

That makes sense. I very seldom use a lens wide open. I’m more of an f8 or f11 kind of person.
December 4, 2025 at 7:36 PM
That’s a cool present. The f5 was big money! I think I’ve seen pics of your 28-105 2.8. Pretty brilliant lens design. Surprised no one copied that.
December 4, 2025 at 4:54 PM
I do like the f100 better than the f5. Alas… I’ve never had any love for the f4. And that is purely Nikon’s fault due to their shity first gen AF lens designs. No way I was giving up my beautiful AIS lenses for those plastic AF lenses with the thin focusing ring.

A shutter release would be nice. The winders work with a mechanical system instead of an electronic one. When you trip the shutter, you actually feel a little kickback from the winder engaging. It’s a little weird at first. I think the cylinder on the motor version is where the not-AA batteries go.
December 4, 2025 at 4:12 PM
The winder M could have been more compact. Shaving a little height would have made it perfect. I’ve not used a motor M. Not sure how I feel about the cylinder component in front of the body. In a way, I feel like that makes it more bulky. The purists will tell me that M’s don’t need winders.

The P645 grip does come off. Not sure why.

Oh… forgot the Hasselblad ELM!

I have mixed feelings about the F5. It would be nice to be able to take the grip off sometimes.

Out of the bunch, the F2 is my favorite and gets the most use.

I have the Winder M. I know most people hate them. Probably why they’re the cheapest M accessory out there. But I love the way they make the camera feel. Especially for vertical shots.

My gripped/motored film cameras (off the top of my head:

Nikon F2
Nikon F3
Nikon F5
Nikon F100
Leica M6
Canon 1V HS
Hasselblad ELX 553
Pentax 645

That’s a lot of AA batteries!
