A Private Members’ Motion on Reducing Household Energy Costs will be debated in the NI Assembly today. A quarter of NI households told us that they went without heating (oil/gas) or electricity at some point during the last 24 months because they could not afford to use it.

We were at the Trussell Trust NI's Hunger in Northern Ireland report launch in Stormont this morning and heard about how people are struggling with the cost of food and essentials. One in five households (21%) in NI experienced food insecurity in 2024.
