North England, interested in politics, history, birds, economics, personal finance…not a bot. Sometimes unintentionally irritating (I assume). Will try harder here.

They capped it during the inflation spike but it was obviously still higher then previously- just less high than if they’d taken no action

I think he just doesn’t want to put off poorer kids from going to university. They are the ones that are scared of the debt
January 15, 2026 at 5:53 PM
I think they did? They capped it iirc.
But part of the issue is they keep tinkering with interest rates, repayment thresholds etc

But people have to put up with being killed by irritated law enforcement?

This is obvious. And equally shocking.

Yes there have always been courses that are essentially easy ways in for private school applicants because there’s effective no state school competition

Pretty much all weight loss interventions have the same issue - none is permanent. Only a small percentage of people can maintain themselves at the lower weight by willpower/habits alone.
I guess there will not be very much evidence on long term safety yet, so the answer will be ‘we don’t know’

How is this working out in the US, which has much stricter laws and consequences for creation of these kind of images? Or is there an exemption for AI generated content and/or social media?

I believe so. Doctors complete the certificate and coders assign the best code they can.

Just watched and can’t believe Gold’s ignorance about gay rights history. Doesn’t he prepare?

Yes I agree. I want to be supportive but cannot agree with some of the simplistic arguments/unwillingness to engage in the difficult issues and grey areas that of course exist.

Had my grubby copy 25 year old copy out last week twice for some Christmas stalwarts. And thought ‘I must have a go at more of these’

I meant the EHRC guidance based on the SC ruling, assuming same law.
Clearly a new law could make things better (probably the only thing that could now). Not going to happen any time soon.
December 6, 2025 at 9:20 AM
Certainly not especially with well funded campaigns watching everyone ready to threaten litigation (see WI, GG).
I can’t see how the SC ruling is consistent with the GRA. Need to read some legal commentary I think.

Essentially being driven by ‘this isn’t working let’s try something different’, both now and in 2024. Much more than any actual view of policy platforms
December 6, 2025 at 9:01 AM
But do you think the next iteration will be any better? It’s still got to reflect the SC ruling. Has anyone come up with anything that reconciles that with inclusion for trans people?
