“So that guy, the one RIGHT THERE, is who’s hunting me down?!”

I step to the door and peek my head outside.
“Are you looking for me?”
The wetsuit man smiles gleefully.
“Why, yes!”

My eyes drift past the store owner and right behind him, visible through the large square windows spanning the back of the shop, are two guys chatting. One turns and notices me—the one with a wetsuit on and short black hair. I look back to the man still holding that same photograph and heave a sigh

Afraid of a hostile reaction, all I can think to do is apologize profusely through the musty, still air and give him rapturous thumbs-ups, saying stuff like “No worries!” and “You’re awesome!!” He was just a squatter, and I’d rather avoid antagonizing someone who would hopefully mind their business…

By the time I got back to the room from my retrieval mission, the kitten I’d been looking after had disappeared. My immediate worst thought drew my eyes to that narrow opening in under my feet, but thankfully I spotted the little thing under a chair chewing on a miscellaneous wire’s plug. Phew!
