Cornish Semiconductor Corporation: "Balmaidens of Ale and Cakes mine (arsenopyrite transistor + SH101)"

Arsenopyrite fossicked from minewaste during our workshop on Sunday.

Featuring a Roland SH101 on loan from a friend - turns out the "crystal log synth" internal clock is compatible with it! […]

Does anyone remember the Reinhart-Rogoff affair? The paper that was widely used to justify austerity policies, but where the main result was only an artifact due to the researchers screwing up their Excel formulas?

So yeah, can't see how putting the random number generator called "AI" in Excel […]

This is the new pcb - getting a bit better at laying these out now. Three enveloped gates are made from single transistors that distort the sound as it attenuates (you can hear this on the track). The knobs control decay of the sound. They are triggered with […]

A prototyping PCB with components soldered to it - three potentionmeters on the left, two chips and a set of tiny switches.

I think the best one so far, starting to get somewhere with this perhaps...

The natural semiconductors used in this track are pieces from the same lump of solid chalcopyrite fossicked from minewaste at East Wheal Maid, Gwennap. Three shafts on a hilltop that overlook the "Wheal Maid Valley" […]

Pre-pre-pre-announcement that around the end of the year/early spring we'll be announcing some new funded residencies, based at our new studio in Cornwall to run around Aug/Sept 2026.

The theme this time is moths and their viruses - as part of a bigger research grant on how viruses and their […]

159 is the number to right if you have suspicious banking things going on - it asks you which bank you are with and it sends you directly to someone who will help, no waiting

They did ring back and I told them they were scammers and I had reported the website, the response "Well, have a nice rest of the day".
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
Had a very convincing scam attempt on our business bank account yesterday.

Had one of those fraudulent transaction query answer Y/N texts (with a totally made up payment to Adidas) which I quickly answered because I was out walking the dog. This led to a series of texts saying they were going […]

@yaxu a student I was working with had this massive state of the art neural network model setup for exploring musical events, got a bit disheartened when he swapped in markov chains to debug something and they worked much better

Is it only me or have Google turned off the comedy AI box of wrong facts at the top of their search in the last day or so?

@cd_newton My entrypoint was https://www.discogs.com/release/126846-Muslimgauze-Gun-Aramaic and I recently picked up https://www.discogs.com/release/13751247-Muslimgauze-Babylon-Is-Iraq - judging from that more recent one I think the earlier stuff is more complete, and the newer are outtakes of […]

Kind of amazing that Bryn Jones died in 1999 and we still have Muslimgauze releases happening in 2025

Seems mimetite is *also* a semiconductor... but err... gonna have to find a bit more of it than this!
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
Extremely tiny hexagonal yellow mimetite crystals in a similar galena rich rock from the same location.

What happens when seawater comes into contact with lead and arsenic - lovely!!
Yellow elongated crystals on a red matrix rock.

@yaxu I have no idea what they think they are doing - and why they think this is a good moment for this, of all things.
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
The UK approach is to split all your info across numerous agencies that can't talk to each other, which is why it's so much hassle doing everything and nothing works - the cost of less state oversight is hassle.
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
I once had (still have?) a Finnish state ID number that meant that when we moved house everything was altered automatically with zero effort - this felt spooky and wrong at the time, but also very convenient, but still wrong...
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
The reason the UK is historically opposed to ID cards when the rest of the EU has them is down to Napoleon, who was so into them the British naturally had to go the other way.
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
New track made with some samples of galena from Wheal Clinton in Flushing, this was a small mine that was only worked for a couple of years. It was closed in 1858 after being flooded and not considered economically viable. Occasional lumps of mineralised rock can still be found here and there on […]

New-new studio so close to being up and running ✨ be nice to see an end to the relentless moving and carrying and shelf building and to be back in the world
Photo of some shelves with books, some tangling trailing plants on the top shelf, and our studio sign propped up. There is a lot of ambient light.

The other main problem is that my framework laptop USB power fuses seem to be on a hair trigger (I need to physically unplug the framework port thing to reset it).

This all runs standalone on a Pi Pico so not really a problem, just a pain when checking things.
nebogeo.post.lurk.org.ap.brid.gy
Probably have to turn it up again for a more open space...
