My mom’s paternal ancestors trace back to a German Jew in the 17th century who converted against the will of his first wife, who sued to stop him from baptizing their two minor daughters as well. She lost and divorced him. He remarried and the rest is genealogy.

I still enjoy attending a new parish and learning a song I’ve never sung before. Right now that’s all sorts of Taizé pieces at the local retreat center’s monthly service. 💕

Well, yes, but you can hardly avoid that. Music to sing with full heart and voice is much more optional.

Most people hear “folk choir” and immediately roll their eyes or, in one case, asked in scandalized accents: “The music? Don’t you attend Mass to meet Christ in the Eucharist?”

I keep telling people that my origin story as a Catholic liturgical musician was a folk choir visiting my four-hymn-rut parish when I was five and still permitted to choose between attending Mass and playing with my baby brother. The possibility of good music won and continues to win.

They want everyone in every sector to be dumber for racist ideology reasons. Which I will never cease being astonished at. Because I think education is really neat. I like it. Yay learning.
