Popping my head in here briefly to say; serious bummer to hear that your Twitter got hacked Red. Hope the situation gets resolved with little hassle.

Also whoever hacked your account blocked me for spreading the word, so just letting you know to revert that when you get access to your account back.

Unless things really, REALLY go up sh!t creek, that's where I'll be. Who knows, I could have a change of mind later, but the bird nest is where I stay.

If you've read all this & aren't fuming at me having an outlook that goes against the grain, then thanks for your time &, hopefully, understanding.

I haven't 100% decided, but there's a very high likelihood that I'll either keep my time on here to a minimum (i.e. keeping in touch with mutuals & just avoiding the feed altogether), or just leave outright & only use Twitter as my social media of choice.

My apologies, but I much prefer it there.

I'm happy to have given this place an earnest go, but ultimately, it just really isn't for me.

In addition, I feel the elitism & toxicity I've witnessed will only grow worse with time. If there's a wave of folk clamouring for 'an alternative to Bluesky' down the road, don't say I didn't warn you.

I had to ask myself several questions these past several days.

"Do I like using Bluesky?"

"Is scrolling through here worth my precious time?"

"Since everything I post here I also post to Twitter, is posting on both worth the extra hassle?"

And to all three, my answer's ultimately no.

Another mutual (again, leaving anonymous) also replied to my tweet on the matter with, & I quote;

“When something advertises itself as ‘______ but better’, it rarely gets the legs to truly replace it. Real replacements don’t make that their identity.”

A statement I agree with wholeheartedly.

I chatted to a mutual a bit ago, who I'll leave anonymous, who said Bluesky's become as bad as Twitter for him, & I told him;

"Give it a couple years & people will yearn for an alternative to Bluesky like how it is to Twitter."

Says a lot that this place has gotten that bad already for some folk.

This place is a slog to keep up with, it's a strain on both desktop & mobile, the atmosphere reeks of snobby elitism that's unhealthily elevated out of spite, & it lacks many features to the point of low-key feeling unfinished.

Screw 'the better Twitter.', Bluesky just isn't great in general imho.

And if I'm being honest, mutuals, YTers & artists who've abandoned Twitter outright are the only reason I kept up with Bluesky. And that motivation to even hypothetically step foot in this place is at an all-time low.

If you ask me, this place is much more mentally exhausting than Twitter ever was.

I know that may sound hard to believe, but I speak the truth. Seriously feels like I've stumbled into some kinda alternate, backwards reality since it feels like I'm legit the only one who has this viewpoint.

And that viewpoint is, simply, Bluesky being a worse Twitter, figuratively & literally.

And you wanna know something? People yap on & on about how Twitter is filled with politics & upsetting news whilst stating Bluesky is this clean haven for artistic folk.

But for me, it's unironically the exact opposite. Nothing but constant politics & negativity here, & art & good vibes on Twitter.

People claim Twitter is toxic & while they ain't wrong, I feel they're really fooling themselves into claiming Bluesky isn't, especially with the aforementioned elitism.

If anything, I legit think, in a vacuum, Bluesky's more toxic. Or at least, has brought out some folk's true, radioactive colors.

And to some extent, I get it. Eff that PoS Musk & all the 'ay eye' they're forcing down your throat over there. Again, that's something I think Bluesky beats Twitter out in.

But ignoring the blatant shortcomings of this place solely because "It ain't Twitter." is a really unhealthy outlook to have.

And tbh, I just can't bloody stand the snobby & elitist aura this place emanates. The whole "Bluesky is SO much better than Twitter!" & "Lol dead bird app!" crap seriously aggravates me.

Because, let's be real, isn't this the kind of behaviour those who entirely left Twitter claimed to wanna avoid?

Also I'm just gonna be blunt, Bluesky is boring compared to Twitter. Feels like any attempts to drum up memes or savvy posts here come off as hamfisted, forced or just resort to screenshots from Twitter, either as fuel to dunk on it &/or glaze up Bluesky even more.

Talk about tapped for creativity.

"But Bluesky's perfect!" Then explain;

- Much more resource/battery intensive on desktop/mobile

- Worse image & video quality (SUPER ironic, given all the artists who flocked here)

- GIFs being mute MP4s & not actual GIFs

- No DMs, drafts, polls or language translator

Just to name a few things.

With that said;

I mentioned this on Twitter the other day, but tbh, I genuinely don't get the whole 'the better Twitter.' shtick Bluesky's touted as.

I won't deny some upsides like the vastly superior mute & block functions, those I'll agree on. But for the most part I still find Twitter better.

I must also state, & crystal clearly at that, that this thread wasn't sparked by anyone in particular, nor is indirectly calling anyone out.

These are thoughts regarding Bluesky that have been brewing in my head for a while now, & I just have to get all this off my chest for my own personal sake.

I've got literally no strong feelings politically aside from eff that turd Tr*mp.

Also, genuinely screw anyone who even considers using anything 'ay eye'.

I'm just saying this now since I know some folk would think of them as reasons for what I'm about to say when they aren't.
