The Democrats aren’t helping. Apart from a few such as Gavin Newsom and AOC, why aren’t they condemning and calling out the myriad abuses of power? I despair when I see Kamala Harris being touted as their candidate in 2028. She’s just written a book which blames everybody else - except herself.

There’s a military takeover happening in the US, but you’d never guess it from most of the commentators. And Britain now has its own version of the Tea Party - Reform - which explains why the Tory Party conference seems so irrelevant. It’s terrifying there’s so little opposition.

I’ve been watching “The Hack”, but it’s not very good, is it? Tonally, it’s all over the place, but it’s pulling its punches whereas “Mr Bates vs The Post Office” landed serious blows. “All The President’s Men” managed to make journalism interesting without gimmicks. This fails, even with them!

It was a privilege to tell the story of three generations of a Highland family who joined forces to take part in a epic charity challenge, both to honour Donna Macdonald and raise money for Kayleigh's Wee Stars! #CommunityMatters #KayleighsWeeStars

Doug Kyle is the visitor centre manager at Crathes Castle. But he has recently become an on-call firefighter with the SFRS in Banchory. It's good to highlight people who make the time and the effort to help others in their community! #NTS #Aberdeenshire

"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

I'm delighted to hear that Gaelic drama "An-t-Eilean" has been renewed. I spoke to lead actress Sorcha Groundsell about the first series and it was a terrific chat with a rising star who has appeared in several other notable roles!

I talked to former STV North chief David McKeith about joining "Our Union Street" to boost Aberden's city centre. I used to work with David and he's a smashing chap. Understandably, he's concerned about STV's plans to axe the North news programmes!

Sad news about Lewis Moody. Sport has suffered too many losses to this horrible disease. Let’s hope somebody, somewhere finds a cure for MND!

Who could ever have imagined when I played a fictional rebel who joined the Resistance to oppose a criminal Authoritarian & wannabe King, it would be happening in real-life?

Ann Cleeves’ new novel “The Killing Stones” is set in Orkney and sees the return of Jimmy Perez. It’s a stunning book with a remarkable twist at the end and it’s ideal for a TV adaptation. But who should play Perez? A return for Douglas Henshall, maybe! www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lifestyle...
Ann Cleeves: A love for Shetland Noir and Fair Isle has brought us some of crime's most memorable sleuths
The author has used real-life experiences, while working with local authorities and on a bird observatory, to champion the benefits of reading

This was the Daily Mail in 1934. I was offered a job with them and told my mum. She said: “Okay Neil, but I am
never EVER buying that rag!” She was right. I might be poorer now, but I’m so glad I made that decision!

I love the James Hutton Institute forest in Aberdeen’s Airyhall. It’s a haven for Nature and red squirrels in particular. They had vanished from the city in 2019, but are thriving again! The institute is opening a new immersive theatre and cafe this month! www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lifestyle...

I just watched “Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue”. Anthony Horowitz proving yet again it’s easier to create an intriguing mystery than bring it to a satisfactory climax. The ending was preposterous, but at least the theme song - “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics - was cracking!

Are there any decent Republicans who realise Trump wants to be the American Putin? This country used to be byword for democracy. Trump doesn’t want that - not all that boring truth nonsense. He aims to be a dictator like his pal Vlad!!!
