I'm a fat, sarcastic Star Trek fan trying to be less fat and more sarcastic. I write code (mostly C#) and manage teams. All opinions are mine.
Dear Fusion 360, please could you provide a one step export to STL on a button? 99% of the time that’s what someone’s going to want to do, so having .3mf as the default is dumb.

I made an adjustment to a model, exported it, reloaded it in the slicer, and printed it. And then realised that I had exported it as a Fusion archive file rather than an STL, and I had just printed the old version. Again.

To be clear: fuck political parties in general and politicians by and large. But especially fuck Reform.

Meanwhile, I've added a third hole in the middle (which I hadn't planned on originally) for extra support, and hit brick this time. Phew. Situation rescued. I hope.

So I pushed the rawlplug with screw in into the resin and left it to cure. It should anchor as if I had put it in the brick and be strong enough, but it's a hack. Waiting on it curing now and I'll see if I can remove the screw from the plug, which I figure I should be able to do.

This was an issue. I couldn't move the holes, so I had to fix the problem. Enter chemical fixing. Basically, put a resin in the blown-out hole which sets hard. Normally you set threaded rods into the resin as a permanent fixing, but I needed a removeable solution. Or at least a removeable screw.

Measure twice, cut once wouldn't have helped me here. My actual cut list calculations were wrong. I am frequently an idiot.

Also, if you fail to allow for the width of your cabinet dividers when cutting your shelves, you will have problems making them fit. If you've already drilled the pocket holes, you'll have to re-do them once you shorten the shelves and have half-holes visible. Thankfully these are just shop shelves.

The biggest trigger, unfortunately, seems to be the meds I take. Which I do need to take. That said, the explosively hot chilies in last night’s dinner might not have helped, in hindsight.

This combination of insomnia and basically IBS is stealing my life, and I really don’t like it. Also, the weather sucks.
February 7, 2026 at 3:49 PM
That means that the stuff I wanted to do today will have to wait until tomorrow, assuming I feel better, and that in turn will delay things I was going to do this weekend until next weekend.

But hey, if you read AI 2027 then you know we're all just waiting for Skynet anyway, and apparently it's nearly here. So stop worrying and enjoy the sunshine while you still can. Provided you're not in the UK, because we don't do sunshine and AI isn't going to solve that.

The fix: I put a tiny chamfer on both edges, so that there's more contact area with the build plate, and now both lines start on Layer 1 and it's finally printing. Chalk that one up to experience.
February 4, 2026 at 11:03 PM
The nozzle was extruding into nothing. Presumably, on my first try, either the slicer just did better somehow, or the filament fell 0.2mm and settled on the plate anyway and stuck, and kept doing it.
February 4, 2026 at 11:03 PM
Long story short, readers: on examining the preview layer by layer, I discovered that the second line (the point of a inverted pyramid shape that would build up from there) wasn't actually *on* Layer 1 and started in thin air on Layer 2. No idea why.
February 4, 2026 at 11:03 PM
Changed filament settings. Increased plate temp. Did a PA / flow test. Nothing worked. If the *first* line had not stuck sometimes, I'd assume it was adhesion issues. But it was always the second line that didn't stick. Why?
February 4, 2026 at 11:03 PM
OK, super-frustrating follow up to this. This worked fine first time, but the part had design issues that I had to fix. Came back to print again, same slicer technique. Second line on the build plate didn't stick, dragged with the nozzle, and made a huge mess. Cleaned the plate. Tried again. Same.
