One of the best things about GNU/Linux is that you can choose the distro or configure it yourself to make it as slim or bloated as you need. My desktop looks and behaves ± the same for the last 10+ years, all configs are in git, a simple ansible command configures a new machine.

How's CLI "gulag"? It's the easiest and most efficient UI if you aren't dealing with graphics. With GUI you're pointing, with CLI you're talking / writing.

I spent 20 years with different Linux distros, not going to move elsewhere. Briefly had to use Windows at work, it was a joke. So many problems. In Linux the problems at least make sense and you can do something about it. Also you can configure everything for yourself, it pays off in the long run.
