Everything you say is absolutely true. What I will never understand is why, after Russia literally published their entire destabilisation strategy in black and white in 1997 and showed it to everyone, all the governments of 'the west' just shrugged and let them get on with it. No mitigation at all.

I used to be really prescriptive about language, but I like to think that for the most part I've gotten over it now.

Still, I can't say I don't find this a bit jarring: when did we start using 'weekslong', 'monthslong' and 'yearslong' as single words?

And how do people not just see 'slong'?

I've never heard of it before. But having looked at a summary, the whole thing just reads like a guy rationalising old-style conservatism (i.e., before that became a political identity) and making excuses for walls and borders. The phrase "The more modern type of reformer" really stands out.
