I can highly recommend @rebeccamenmuir.bsky.social’s walking tour of Early Modern Latin in the City of London. Visited some new sites and finished off with a nice pub lunch and a toast to Wynkyn de Worde www.layersoflondon.org/map/trails/e...

If you're working on any aspect of the life-cycle (eg birth, marriage, baptism, leaving home, death, childbearing, etc) and want to present at the Life Cycles Seminar at IHR I'd be keen to hear from you! Echo chambers are never good, so it's always worth casting the net.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume.

Classicist: why yes, that was the age of gold, when folks free from care lived out their lives in gentle leisure. The earth too was free from harm, not touched by a rake nor wounded by any plows, but gave everything of her own accord.

Women Writing Natural Philosophy in Early Modern Europe: Spaces and Exchanges

University of Exeter, June 2, 2025 - June 4, 2025

The Cultures of Philosophy team is delighted to announce that the conference ‘Women Writing Natural Philosophy in Early Modern Europe: Spaces and Exchanges’ will take place on 2-4 June 2025 in the Knightley building at the University of Exeter.

The history of philosophy is experiencing a major paradigm shift, with the work of early modern women philosophers in the spotlight: this conference builds on that momentum to produce a more inclusive account of “science” in the long seventeenth century. The conference aims to recover women’s contributions to early modern natural philosophy, looking beyond the treatise and dialogue to other genres both in manuscript and print; and to examine women’s roles in transnational communities of scientific exchange.

We encourage students in need of extra help to reach out to the Society, whether on social media or via the contact details on our website (link in bio), and we shall try to match students with a tutor for the extra help they need! (2/2)

🧵With the UK government having recently rolled back funding for Latin teaching in secondary schools, and with GCSE season approaching, the SNLS is aware that some students will need extra Latin tuition in the run up to their exams. (1/2)

We are actively seeking submissions now, especially for the new ‘What excites me’ section: to which anyone interested, at any age or level of Latin expertise, is encouraged to contribute.

We will publish new Latin poetry; reviews of contemporary Latin verse; short articles on Neo-Latin verse; very short pieces (150-350 words) on ‘What excites me’ about reading Latin poetry of any period.
