Agreed!! Here here. When a country values education of the populace, you won’t get the same issue that you have in the US (and Canada). You don’t have people who object to logical public health measures. Asian countries learned from SARS part I.

A frightening number of people seem to see (their idea of) “Science” as some magic box of clear cut, black&white answers instead of what it is; a method of enquiry.

Then they feel entitled to have “an opinion” about (usually poorly reported) science news. Science isn’t about ANYbody ’s opinion.

I honestly think one of the most constructive things we can do as a community is to broaden the public understanding of what science actually is, how it works and what it attempts to answer.

If I hear “I don’t believe the science” one more time…😡

As a microbiology graduate I’m increasingly concerned about the long term global health impact of RFK Jr if he gets confirmed.

If his ignorant delusions are given actual power then America risks becoming a harbour to worrying new clades of pathogens (which WILL get exported to the rest of us).

It’s already lost an immeasurable chunk just as we in Britain have been severely dented by Boris & his shameless cronies.
It used to be said you need Thick Skin in Politics, now it seems you only need shamelessness & a withering disregard for the truth (and the damage that does to Public Trust).

America has made it’s own bed, however what concerns me (a microbiologist) is a vaccine denier like RFK.

The US risks seeing the return of appalling (& generationally-forgotten) illnesses. Worse still it becomes the harbour to new clades of viral pathogens & impacts the world at large.
