I'm very much a layman here, but even if it did work, it seems like building up a whole mirror fossil fuel industry that basically does the whole thing in reverse is kind of an inefficient way of doing things.

All the more reason to stop burning a finite resource as soon as possible?

Aww, that sounds great. I had a pedal car too, but unfortunately, mine was terrible! Very stiff pedal action.

There are some (probably pricy!) two seat pedal cars out there, like this Finnish made Kinner Car. But as you can see, not suitable for bike lanes. Still, in a world with sane speed limits*, there's no reason an electric version of this couldn't keep pace with cars.

*and enforcement, road design.
The Kinner Car, a two seat (side by side) velo mobile, a sleek open top car-like vehicle with bicycle wheels. The one in the picture is red and white and there are two men looking at it.

On the other hand, cheers to these double aspect units accessed by the courtyard balcony/walkway! North America could never.

Had an idea in my mind's eye, and then was disappointed to see these single aspect units (the lower ones sort of fake dual aspect with a bedroom window onto the balcony). Would have thought they'd be one larger unit that span the width of that section.

Yep! In the 4th pic there's a mock up, including a couple non-cargo crew/flight deck modules.

Finally finished up the two oddball cargo ship designs to go along with my cigarette lighter inspired warp nacelles.
2 Starfleet style cargo vessels. The upper ship is overall rectangular in shape with square areas for various modules to be attached. The lower ship has a barrel like primary hull and two long cargo modules trailing from behind.

The Streisand Effect is the gift that keeps on giving.

I like this version quite a lot, if anything just to see a properly detailed version of the ship. But I will say, I much prefer the original's bridge placement, as the point of that arrowhead shape that runs the length of the ship. Just a more exciting/dynamic look.

Conversely, I think the sizes for the Akira & Miranda listed here are way too small... Especially the Miranda given its size is pretty well established. I guess it goes to show that scaling for VFX is more about what looks good in a composition and maybe shouldn't be taken as the gospel.

It's funny, as Saber class fanboy, I used to resist the 190m size, & clung to the First Contact scale chart that had it at 223m. But tbh, I think the Saber works okay at either size and really even though 190m is relatively "short", it is still a fairly sizeable ship by volume given its width.

Okay not the most important thing here but wtf are Mehdi Hasan and Cody Johnston still doing on X dot com?

I'd like to see a cephalopod bridge officer. I'm picturing a bridge station that somehow transitions to an aquarium mode. Perhaps using holo-technology. Also they could use the chromataphores in their skin to both simulate a uniform and as a means of communicating, via the universal translator.

Interesting! Will have to check that out. My guess is that one advantage is that a cephalopod immersed in water would be much more suited to high G acceleration than a human.

The list of Dave & Buster menu items killed me.

So what do we think, did Trump see the video and couldn't remember if he had actually made an announcement about magic med beds so posted it to make sure he could boast about it? Or did he know it was BS and just threw it out there anyway because he knows his base will gobble up any stupid bullshit?

To the Daily Beast staffer who put “79” into this headline, know this:

We salute you.

Yeah it really feels like a natural predecessor to the TOS Enterprise.
nerdburglar.bsky.social
I really like this one a lot.

This was far funnier than it had any right to be. 😂

"All right, we're launching the next Star Wars trilogy. We're gonna spend roughly a billion dollars making it, but if we play our cards right, we'll sell a ton of merch and lay the groundwork for a bunch of spin-offs."

"very cool! do we have the story plotted out?"

"The what now?"

Yep. Fundamentally we don't have any inherent right to dominion over any animal. This extends to breeding animals whether for livestock or pets.
