There are people loitering in the shadows and someone's getting beat up around the corner. Ren and Ansel pay no attention to any of them. Ansel: Only way a kid like you has that many creds to throw away is because they're not yours and I don't play that game. Ansel gestures dismissively at an indignant Ren behind him. Ansel: And I don't work for teenagers either. Ren: I'm twenty-four! With his back to the viewer, he disappears down the unlit street and points at his head, leaving Ren behind in the darkness outside the bar. Ansel: Your brain's not done developing yet. Same thing. If the money's real, go buy yourself a room at Rita's sweetheart, because you're not going anywhere with me. One of the men hanging around nearby picks up on their conversation and butts in from off-panel. Man: Hey cutie, you can stay at my place if you don't mind sharin' a bed, heh heh heh. Ren erupts fearlessly at him, her hands balled into fists. Ren: Piss off!

There’s something important that I need to get there and I can’t do it alone. I-I don't know the roads, I don't have a map, and I've barely slept in three days. I need your help. Ansel scowls down at the comparatively tiny girl in front of him in silence, ominously blowing smoke out of his nose.

Ansel talks, his facial expression dripping a deadpan sarcasm. Ansel: It doesn't matter what I believe. When you're a medically-enhanced, twenty-something jackass that can punch through concrete, going to war is about all you're good for. Besides, I cost the Titan Program eight million dollars to deploy. They weren't about to let me go into marketing. Ren earnestly interrupts his cynical monologue. Ren: What's marketing. Ansel gestures as he thinks, still walking. Ren silently waiting off-panel for him to figure out what he's trying to say. Ansel: So, uh, marketing was this like... Well, it's how you sold garbage that nobody... Ansel gives up and flashes a little grin at her. Ansel: Actually, you know what? It's a job that doesn't matter anymore. Thank fuck.
