Frustratingly, I only found two refs on my shelf: one's Apollodorus, a solitary name drop in an appendix; the other is an old dictionary of allusion that is also fails to cite the source. I once read someone describe Fry as "the stupid person's thinking person" which is a little harsh, but...

Phonic were similarly positioned to Alesis and Samson back then I think. They had a couple of graphic EQs and a compressor, but except maybe a digital delay, I don't remember them going into effects. PA stuff mostly. Solid but not fancy.
