Yesterday, our renovation of a 1911 historic house by arch. Thierry Nolf was part of Open Monuments Day - Architectural Heritage Walk, Torhout.

The 1977 extension was demolished to create high-quality open space and natural light. Stairs, floors and mantelpieces were restored to their former glory.

On a hilltop in Flanders, this house overlooks a valley. Privacy vs. views are optimized. The oak roof floats above a steel porch. The roof's cantilever regulates sunlight, preventing overheating in summer and maximizing solar gain in winter.

A serene yet powerful gesture.
