I think this could be really informative - it is wild to imagine that nearly *opposite* brain network reconfiguration might be going on in mice vs. human in response to the same drug! ofc highly relevant to better translate research on animal models to insights on how to engineer human medicines.

but I know from our work in the dymecki lab and the Allen Institute human datasets that the expression of for example 5HT2A receptors differs greatly among the species… do you think molecular differences between species may explain your connectivity results?

Cool study and very interesting results! I guess my naive assumption based on human studies of the effects of psilocybin on brain networks using fMRI would have been to observe reduced connectivity to dmn structures… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39020167/
Psilocybin desynchronizes the human brain - PubMed
A single dose of psilocybin, a psychedelic that acutely causes distortions of space-time perception and ego dissolution, produces rapid and persistent therapeutic effects in human clinical trials1-4. In animal models, psilocybin induces neuroplasticity in cortex and hippocampus5-8 …

Sure! Lab-raised juvenile rats quickly learn how to hunt crickets and this causes slow, but persistent increased plasticity in binocular visual cortex (V1b): in both firing rates & connections (spine density). So learning drives V1b increases in V1b activity & may be a site of skill consolidation
