I grew up on Warner Bros cartoons so when I finally saw it in the 1980's it recalled Marvin the Martian and the space-age cartoon era. Later, I was drawn to the soundtrack / score / effects achievement by Louis and Bebe Barron. I think the Tempest comparison is valid but overstated. Leslie Neilson!
