Just here to catalog my movie thoughts so my friends get a break
In both cases, the central tension isn't Gosling working with an alien, or Hulk showing up - its where the story goes from there thats actually interesting.

I felt the same about Thor Ragnarok, where it was said the Hulk moment should have been a surprise...but after the bad reviews of the previous Thor...would anyone have seen it if they didn't drop that hook? I certainly was more interested because of it.

Community cemented that the one thing Chevy brought to comedy was fumbling with every day objects. Couldnt write. Didnt understand humor. Unless you needed an acerbic jackwad, he didn't bring a lot else to the table.

I was a teen during the Zahn etc EU era, so it's been funny watching modern fans treat the EUs new "Legend" status as some big loss when in the 90s, many fans enjoyed it much more casually, almost more like an AU. A lot of it was really goofy!

100% Agree - I grew up in an era where the EU was largely regarded as fun but unserious/definitely not canon, so being as Im also a movie/shows person, this take on Boba didn't challenge how i saw the character.

All the criticisms I hear are so highly specific I have trouble considering them. Mando 2.5? Rewriting Bobas character? Didn't like the guy who spun? As a star wars cowboy miniseries, I dug it. Apologies it didn't indulge your Boba headcanon.

I like Avatar. There are legitimate crits of it I agree with. But people seem to be really annoyed that Cameron is completely satisfied making popcorn scifi in an era where boring Dune (wanna talk about white savior scifi?) is the standard.

I see people say avatar generates no memes, we don't see references to it. Where should we be seeing these references? Fucking /SNL/? these are some avacado-shelf-life fucking metrics to gauge impact by. Monoculture has been entirely relegated to the offline world.

What "cultural impact" means in the slop & algorithm era is vague to the point of meaningless. I'll tell ya this though: getting people to the movie theater nowadays is no small feat.

The ending is kind of a rerun of WoW's finale, but ill be damned if it wasnt still exciting. The villain is excellent, an all-in performance that you want more of.

I still think way of water is my fav, A&F has a lot to do and i think some of it gets lost in the hustle. There are also a few key actors who aren't pulling their weight, which really highlights the pass/fail nature of Cameron's dialog.
