I gave up on this terrible film. My take was that the characterization of Napoleon seemed to be inspired by Ian Holm’s version in Time Bandits.

Bondarchuk’s version of War and Peace in Russian also features seemingly the entire Red Army and was no doubt why he was hired for Waterloo.

A lot of people in Europe and elsewhere still have a folk memory of the BBC as the voice of resistance to fascism, when it was illegal to listen.
