Monday I got a late start on a hike and ended up coming down in the dark. It was great. Wildlife sightings: common poorwill, California toad, mule deer. Didn’t get to hear the screech owl though.

Anyway, I don’t think anyone follows me for frogs. But I think they’re rad, so, here they are. These are all Pseudacris cadaverina, the California tree frog, from the upper Arroyo Seco in Pasadena and the Angeles National Forest.

It impresses me that these guys are living their best lives in rather arid environments. It hasn’t seriously rained in LA in months, to my knowledge. But where there’s a trickle of water, they make it work.

Water is life. Connecting with these creatures whose life cycles thread together the water & the land feels therapeutic. It plugs us into the networks & currents that make life possible.
