Need it to be an accurate representation of what they will get in the summer. I taught AQA last year at my previous school and Edexcel where I am now, very different grade boundaries too

I'm thinking that. Would it be too early to have them for the November series though? Too new to this game to know what's out there!

One for the "what do maths teachers talk about" i once went to a department meal where the topic of conversation for the entire evening (no exaggeration) was whether standard form could be negative or not

I've been hooked on these guys since Friday. Their article on attendance vs grade is something I've been seeking for weeks now

Had it authorised yesterday. Hoping it'll go nicely in tandem with the collaborative planning workshop i have the day before

I went on a course once where they told us that the attention span of a human plummets on 8 minutes so dont talk for any longer than that. Spent the next 6 hours being talked at

I've worked at schools where any sort of restorative process could be very box ticky for the same behaviour to be repeated next time. A student might need what was mutually agreed reiterating if a that member of teaching staff feels that engagement wasn't fully there
November 30, 2025 at 8:20 PM
I get that and I'd never escalate because the student has attended the sanction, I'd respond by saying I'll check in before/during the next lesson with them to ensure that we don't repeat the process after the next lesson

As a new HoD I can see how so many make the wrong decision because the easy option is to give in when things aren't exactly "restored" instead of holding your nerve and pushing for something more successful
November 30, 2025 at 7:46 PM
It's about satisfaction and, to some extent as a middle leader, nerve. If any of my department have some form of restorative with a pupil I will always ask "are you satisfied with it?"

One of the most coherent "how to teach maths" articles I've read thank you. Feel like vectors is one of those topics that feels very unknown and scary for teachers. I broke it down to help myself better understand it and teach it. Thankful it's the same way as yours!

My colleague was very unhappy with looking at the books but it turned out she was doing a full on written comment check. Only they can sort that because its their perogative not our policy
November 26, 2025 at 8:39 PM
For example we had a policy at a previous school where we had to check books once a half term and fill in a tick sheet based on presentation.
November 26, 2025 at 8:39 PM
On the flipside I'm welcome to research, attend work groups and cpd outside of school in my role of HoD as my perogative because if it's made policy leaders worry it'll become too prescriptive
November 24, 2025 at 8:38 PM
I've been using the words policy and perogative a lot recently. I can't really help you if you're unhappy marking books when thats your perogative not our policy.

I need one of these for my guys, they are foundation though. Trying to convince them in terms of progression that a 3 in their mocks next week is ok

A student said to me last week she wasnt in a good mood and it would really cheer her up if i did the "6,7 dance." I told her i'd rather she'd have a bad day and continued teaching 😂

Not A Level but I've put my year 11 homework into chat GPT and used it as answers for the students to mark. They can then spot the errors for themselves

He did warn me he'd do it at some point. This is pretty low key in terms of stuff to happen on my training year!

My mentor intentionally broke the interactive whiteboard without telling me to see how id adapt. Whilst annoying it came in handy yesterday when it died on me period 1!
