and a universe without the Time Lords though not mentioning that specifically, Harry Myers being unrecognizable in the role. Eccleston also gets to really play the anger of the Doctor by the end which is great. Billie Piper and Camille Coduri as Rose and Jackie are given some of their best

but the more pop culture little ideas of mischief and flashes of emotion which is a perfectly good limit to put but there’s also the argument of pushing things just a little bit further into the dangerous territory. The Hellion is a great idea for a villain, playing very much in ideas of the fae

That isn’t to say it isn’t great, it’s a really good idea. McMullin is playing with the little demonic shop that appears one day and pushes those who go into it to lose their inhibitions and let those intrusive thoughts win. It goes far enough to say it doesn’t make real intrusive thoughts win,

Badland are all quite good in their roles, especially Badland playing Aunt Lavinia as the quirky outsider who just hates Harry. There’s a psychic alien threat and remembrances of Christmas past but it doesn’t quite do much more than be a little festive special. It’s just a little unremarkable.
