Learning that many of the dialog scenes in The Road were verbatim conversations between McCarthy and his own son makes the book even more soulcrushing.

THE ROAD - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Devastating.

The votes gave her the seat, not some mystical ritual performed by a political hack. Stop playing along with these sodden old traditions. Get serious now.

I didn't get a pic, but I can add a Cooper's Hawk to my neighborhood's list of raptors, along with the mated pair of barred owls and the occasional visits from the bald eagles.

The thing I love about McCarthy is what I love about Hemingway: the text effortlessly slips between lyrical and then terse and punchy. I aspire to even a smidgen of that craft.

If Cliff Booth can eat Mac'n'Cheese while watching the tube, then goddamnit, so can I. 🇺🇸

"In one quiet moment, he was horrified to realize he had no real personality; instead he was a haphazard compilation of survival mechanisms. He carried with him always a soiled and torn bag of varied masks, an assembly of personas easily slapped on for any occasion or circumstance."

Cormac Mccarthy's scenic descriptions are so stylistically abstract that sometimes I can't actually picture them in my head. But the writing itself makes the brain tingle, and I feel rewired in some small way. I think only literature can do that.

While I agree that the Jackson films are objectively good, to me, they just aren't accurate representations of the Tolkien books. My first exposure to The Hobbit was 6-7yrs old. I read LOTR at 13-14. I just see something completely different in my mind's eye (even now on a re-read).

A world power falls into dictatorship. Meanwhile, a mysterious interstellar object hurls through the inner solar system. In Iowa, a school superintendent is arrested by ICE fleeing with cash and weapons, revealing he's not who he claims to be...

Probably a great novel.
Definitely a shitty reality.

Reading Cormac Mccarthy makes me just want to burn everything I've ever written and then walk into a lake.

I just heard that old Christopher Cross hit on the radio. Man, that dude loves his sailing.

Another thing killing the holiday mood is all this white nationalist theological authoritarianism.

I started Halloween decorating, but this heatwave is killing the mood.

After NASA's latest scan, for some reason, they've decided to change 3I/ATLAS's name to Event Horizon. 🤷‍♂️

I call your 3I/ATLAS and raise you an A11pl3Z.

My old friend and colleague Ritch Duncan has started a site/newsletter called DEATHBED (I'm a "contributing editor") publishing HORROR STORIES BY COMEDY WRITERS. It launched today with a story called "Bad Seed" by (squints at paper) "me."

Check it out! deathbed.ghost.io

A nice piece of folk horror!

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER was another wild PTA epic, but you have to squint so hard to see any of Pynchon's novel in it that it's basically an original work all its own.

In anticipation of my Sunday screening of ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, a rewatch of INHERENT VICE. Damn, this one gets better every time I watch it. Five out of five.

I'm absolutely hoping that 3I/Atlas is an interstellar craft from a superior intelligence because, come on, someone needs to be the adult around here.
