I'm on tour to promote this one, and as I talk with people about Chih and Singing Hills, I find this curious urge to live up to Chih and what they believe about the world and their purpose.

I can't tell you how important that was to me and how important I know it is to some of my French readers.

When he was translating Singing Hills, Mikael and I had a conversation over how we were going to handle Chih's pronouns.

Chih is a cleric in a world where that's its own gender, and in English I've rendered it as "they/them." This construction does not exist in French.
