I wonder if Stroud somewhat regretted setting it then. Computers are mentioned in the first book but I'm not sure they ever come up again, I don't think airplanes or movies are ever acknowledged, etc. Obviously you can justify such changes as alt-history but it feels like an earlier time.

I have, but you know that was because I wanted to make sure they had the right tires in stock before I drove to the shop, and the solution was to look at my tires. I guess if you went there without checking and are already waiting in line...oh wait no internet search exists.

This is extremely stupid. They will feel entirely empowered both to conceal the code and to treat anyone getting close enough to scan their code as a threat This is a parody of accountability applied to a government-backed street gang.

Wait according to the article the reason this fossil is a big deal is because it dates back to before the oxygen high, and it was only slightly higher (23 vs 21), at that time, suggesting they might be able to cope with our oxygen levels.

No UK bacon is better than American bacon, which is so threaded with fat it needs to be fried to a crisp. UK bacon is mostly, you know, actual meat. Not that this makes this proposal less disgusting.

Watching a longer clip there seems to be a pattern to this fight, though I don't know boxing: Chase keeps coming in with massively telegraphed uppercuts that may or may not connect, and Tate's only counter is to stumble forward and grab on for a reprieve while the referee pulls them apart.

In Fantasy I believe this was the plan of some of the vampires, as while some undead still feel emotion the way their souls are bound to the material world means it doesn't fuel Chaos.

I also like the one where a boss asks questions like “how long has X worked here” and it’s their work anniversary, suggesting he either asks this every day, already knew, or got really lucky, and also didn’t think to add calendar reminders for his stupid employee trivia displays.

Yeah, he was claiming to be one of the top players in Path of Exile 2, something that requires such a time commitment it would be a scandal itself if true. He displayed gross ignorance of basic game mechanics, lacked a loot filter (a requirement for any real player), and was painfully inefficient.

He did not, he had transparently false concerns where he baselessly accused Biden of doing the things he did during his own first term. Perhaps Hunter trying to leverage his father's name "could raise concerns," but these are divorced from Trump's wild claims.

They’re trying to rely on “technically he didn’t specifically order the second strike that was (even more obviously) illegal”, because he just said kill them all without specifics. If they weren‘t scared they’d have already posted the “you’re goddamn right I did” meme.

And the Republican plan is in no way to stop bringing people in - it’s to strip them of their already inadequate protections, render them completely reliant on their employer, destroy any independence, and send them back as soon as they’re not working. What he describes is what they want.

A friend of mine was explaining how the various animated series hugely improved the prequels and I was stuck thinking that maybe I lack the investment in Star Wars to be interested in hours of content aimed at retroactively improving terrible movies.

The only thing Republicans could offer in negotiation that has value is the removal of Trump from office, and that would need to be finalized first. They've rendered themselves too untrustworthy as negotiators for anything else to make sense.
