Daily reminders to write from a lil bot that knows that writing is hard but not as hard as worrying about not writing. Here to help you finish your draft. You can do it! This bot is programmed to believe in you.
🤖

Take a moment today to write. Take a minute to think of what you'd *like* to write, then find a timer and set it for 15 minutes (or however much time you have) and write. If you happen to have more time, that's great! But start w/ 15 minutes if you're feeling overwhelmed.

Some days I tell myself I'll do a *little* thing with a manuscript & then I'll be free. Today was one of those days, and of course I ended up doing way more than just the small task. But the one small task was the window.

Give yourself a little task, a friendly opening. Write.

ok! day 8!

...so you don't actually have to write every day. but if you want to eventually finish drafting a book you do have to write, and this is a day, so maybe write today.

you can do it. take a moment, set a tiny goal for yourself, make it a super easy, super achievable goal, write.

Day 7! You can do it, you’ve got some time still—write if you haven’t already! Just get some words in.

It's day 6 of 2026. If you want a super, super low stakes goal, just know you could write a 60k novel by writing ~200 words a day. That's not much. That's actually a little more than this post. Go. Write. It all adds up.

Happy first Monday of 2026! You can write today. Don't write for too long, don't set yourself a hugely ambitious goal, just color in a corner, have fun, do a little bit. It adds up, I promise.

life is chaos & one of the comforts of art is that you can try to make sense of that chaos--to excavate beauty & meaning from all the various jumbled pieces. you can do it, you can write a little bit.

You can write today. I know you can. I'm in a house full of dear family friends & children & even so I'm taking 20 minutes to write a little bit. You can too. Staying with the work as much as you can makes the work easier, and it makes returning to the work easier as well.

You will be visited by three spirits. One of them has notes on your novel.

this lil bot is taking a break till january 2.

you are not a bot: you deserve rest if you need rest, and writing well doesn't necessarily mean writing nonstop.

i do plan on writing/revising during the next few days, but i'll be doing TONS of loafing too, tons of reading too.

see u in 2026

You still have time to write. You may be visited by three spirits tomorrow & at least one of them may ask you how the writing is going. Take a moment & write.

I woke up early. I had programmed the coffeemaker the night before, so I was all ready to go. And then I sat down & the cat sat on my lap as I drank my coffee & I was so sure I couldn't write, the laptop was far away. Because cat. But it turns out you actually *can* move a cat.

It’s morning, everyone was asleep, and I snuck in a few handwritten pages. I’m supposed to be revising a long, close-to-finished thing, so I’m writing to procastinate on “real” writing, which I recommend. Write what you’re not supposed to write.

I’m on a treadmill right now but plan on handwriting a little while my kid swims. Nothing major. You could too, if you’re feeling like it, but it’s the weekend & you could also not write—you’re not a machine. Rest, read, have fun. Write if you want to, but keep it casual.

Did you write? You still have time! Two drafting strategies to use, even if pressed for time, are (1) distance & (2) structure.

Try drafting a page by hand. No fancy pens or paper, just whatever you have. (If you *have* to use a computer, change the font to something ugly and BIG.) (1/2)

u only need a few notes or lines or a paragraphs. a first draft is mostly taking notes anyway.

the hardest bit is the pre-writing dread + those first few minutes where it feels like i've got nothing, but you can get past that. even if you don't, it's fine. the best part is having written.

busy? sleepy? stressed? me too! & even so, i think we can do some writing--keep your expectations low, don't force yourself to think you've got to do a lot. you've got a moment. write. you'll feel good about having written. ❤️
