Time to hold Nandy to account for this farce and time to clear out the BBC board Ed. Don't let GBNews vested interests make the running on this

Nandy should have a got grip of this but as it is shouldn't get a grip on a jam lid. She should resign or Starmer should sack her.

The endorsement of this ridiculous remuneration package is precisely emblematic of this. America doesn't have a dream it has an aspiration delusion.

Interesting podcast as ever but since you were so fond of quoting Dieter Helm, I suggest at least Alastair acquaint himself with his latest thinking on the state of our energy system.

British energy policy – not cheap, not home-grown and not secure - Dieter Helm
Some people – and some politicians – seem to believe that if you keep repeating claims eventually they will be believed, even as the evidence unfolds that they are obviously just not true. Any counter...

They can't handle the politics of this. They will raise taxes and mutter like the managerial bureaucrats they are that improvements will take time. Enough of the electorate will not buy that and they will be cooked.

Do you mean current spending at the current tax take should continue? I think we need to see wider reforms alongside a review of tax all attached to a clearer theory of the case for renewal of this country....

Now I am not a pollster but anecdotally people seem to be pig-sick of politicians of all stripes with, seemingly, one exception. And I think Reeves' budget is only going to cement that trend (which I think will be regrettable to say the least).

I am sure this was her point. But it's the same point she made in her last doomladen speech and in the absence of something beyond raising taxes to feed debt repayments it's not apparent we get further forward and I kind of think most people are sick of that and rightly are expecting more.

She's cooked basically. Whatever gets raised will be like giving a horse a strawberry and it'll be consumed in debt repayments and spending no one notices benefits from.

The problem is American's (although it's not unique to them) are caught in the aspiration delusion which permits them to accept these circumstances based on the fantasy that one day the 'American Dream' lift them to similar levels of excessive remuneration. "The could be me" (probability <1%).
