Horror author. Nerd. Geek.
I tear off the paper. 'A vacuum cleaner!' I force merriment into my voice, because Harry looks so pleased with what he has gifted me.
'You said to get you something useful, instead of the usual tat I buy you.'
I fake a smile and accept his proud kiss upon my cheek.

There's a scarecrow in my neighbour's garden. As I weed my own, hands dirt deep, I hear it creak and look up.
Has its head turned?
No. Impossible. Just the wind.
Its button eyed face, blank. I'm imagining things.
Another creak. Birds scatter.
It's smiling.

'What's this?'
Lorna has the locket, gold chain draping her fingers like a snake and just as deadly.
My bedside drawer is open. 'What were you doing looking in there?'
'You haven't answered me. Whose is this?'
I swallow. The truth will break her heart.
So instead, I lie. 'It's for you.' #WriteCBC

She sits sketching with a pencil. Her gaze flicking upwards to the painting. I sit next to her, old bones creaking as I settle. “You like Monet?’
She looks at me. Nods.
What does she see? Does she see her own provenance? I want her to. Need her to.
But no. All she sees is a stranger.

Half-formed, unnatural. The ghoul was coming. Hungry. It ripped away my fingers last night, all yellowing teeth and dirty claws, but my blood calls it back, night after night and there's not much more of me I can afford to lose. I clutch the dagger with my remaining hand. Ready. #WriteCBC

That’s great! Currently reading an ARC of Just Add Writer and wanted to say I think it’s a really good book. I’m about halfway, but will definitely get a 5 stars from me!

#WriteCBC The bog pulls at the detective's boots, releasing a rotten egg stink with every squelching, sucking step that takes her closer to the corpse. The victim, lies atop the mire, as if asleep, her pale skirt stained teabag brown, clasping a dried out, dead bouquet in her bone white hands.
