I have no doubt that NASA has been wasteful, poorly run, etc. But Space X would not exist without NASA.

NASA took on enormous risks that no private company would’ve touched — and much of that work made companies like SpaceX possible. The idea that $40B was wasted overlooks decades of foundational R&D.
