For Christmas day, I drove to the big wetland reserve near Seville: Parque Nacional de Doñana. Was such a chill place to spend the day with storks, kingfishers, cormorants, and so many other birds…

Visited the incredible Islamic #Alcazar in #Seville today. The #architecture is really incredible. Also… I ❤️ #muqarnas so much! And the water-filled cistern underneath was wonderful.

I visited the old Expo '92 site in #Seville today. It's mostly in serious disrepair, but has a real vibe of wonderful #urbandecay. The Hungarian pavilion by Imre Makovecz is in excellent condition and is truly whimsical and remarkable piece of #architecture.

I’m spending Christmas in #Seville. Started my visit at the Catedral de Sevilla and climbed the bell tower to get a view of the city.

I ran into a traffic jam in #extramedura this morning… #sheep

Another busy day. Started by climbing a hill to a radar station perched high above the #extremadura countryside. Then saw so many cranes and storks including a group nesting on a church. Finally, entered into #Andalusia and wove between small mountains and wooded hills.

For my birthday, @dburka.bsky.social got me dinner out at Alberca - the fanciest little restaurant in #trujillo. I had a really memorable tasting menu of bites. Thanks, and Happy Bday back at you D.

Spent the day resting and enjoying the little town of #trujillo. The local cheeses and cured meats are 😋 and the cobbled streets are a delight to explore. It was raining all day today, but it just added to the ambience…

The 🌇 in #Trujillo last night was incredible. It's a stunning medieval hilltop fortress town (I've heard it was featured in #GameOfThrones as Casterly Rock).

I'll be spending the next 4 days here resting and taking care of some errands.

Today I crossed into the province of #Extremadura to #Trujillo. Along the way I saw a neolithic stone circle (Dolmen de Azután) from around 5000 BC (!!), a Roman temple (Los Mármoles) from the 2nd century, a 15th century stone bridge (Puente del Conde), and ate 😋 jamon croquetas in Aldeacentenera.

I rode up and over two passes in the Sierra de Gredos mountains today. Then went for a long hike up to Cima La Cabrilla. It was lovely to get back out into nature.

I took a side-quest to #Madrid on the train yesterday. Visited the Prado, the historical center, Palacio, etc. but by far my favorite thing I did was visiting the Museo #Metro Madrid and the old historic trains. Hey @milesintransit.com - FOAMer alert.

I’m staying in #Segovia outside of Madrid for a couple nights and am exploring the castle, cathedral, and the old Jewish quarter of the city.

I woke up to these stunning views of Orbaneja del Castillo this morning. I just picked a hotel in the direction I was driving and knew nothing about this extremely picturesque town.

While driving through the Spanish countryside, I randomly saw I sign for the Cueva de Pozalagua caves. I'm so glad I changed my plans and went to check it out! #caving

The Guggenheim in Bilbao was pretty special. Enjoyed the architecture (RIP Gehry) and the art and how they both work together.

Had my first nice warm day of the trip so far. Was nice not to be half-freezing and wet throughout the day. And… the coast was spectacular between San Sebastian and Bilbao. Huge waves crashing again today, surfers out, and people just enjoying walking along the cliff-walkways on a beautiful Sunday.

Made it to San Sebastian in Spain today. The change of scenery was amazing: steep cliffs, huge waves (there's a "Severe Coastal Event" warning), surfers, and Pintxos. I even rode on the 100+ year old funicular.

It was raining today - so I spent the day off the motorcycle exploring Bordeaux. Took a ferry across the river, enjoyed a glass of wine at Darwin Eco-système, visited the Musée d'art Contemporain, etc.

Stopped my motorcycle at grolleau-lis.fr and had some delicious 🦪 oysters 🦪 for lunch. And they were so friendly!

For decades, these aid programs received bipartisan support and made a difference. Cutting them will cost lives.

I came across this issue of The Continent on the war in #Sudan and I couldn't find a better contrast to Western nihilism when it comes to its perception of countries in the Global South. It is an absolute must-read.
We asked Sudanese people to explain what the war is about. What emerges is clear: there is no such thing as a war about nothing. continent.substack.com/p/is-the-sud...
