I’m just going to say “MURDER…”

Really tried to like it. Couldn’t find a home.

a) shredding public services isn’t progressive. I’m not saying this party could blat out any old economic policy, I’m saying they wouldn’t start from an economic posture. And b) I think if you assume this party would be “bought off” then yeah, that implies their governing principle is for sale :)

Not if they were serious about being socially progressive. If you assume bad faith, nothing works.

I’ve always wondered what would happen if they started fielding candidates in England and Wales

I’ve been wondering whether we’re moving into a space where the divisions are no longer primarily viewed along economic lines. What would happen if someone started a party which was primarily socially progressive and had no fixed economic position?

I'm not an economist but seems worrying that the whole US economy is seven companies in a trenchcoat, passing the same $20 up and down

I thought he was. The KCs I know are formidable, and a couple of them liked him and were very hopeful about him. A competent, pro-EU Labour leader offering a strong green agenda? Sounds great. Obviously didn’t work out that way.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

Or should I say Blueksy?
A chocolate bar custom-printed for the Conservative Party conference. Text reads “When Labour negotiates, Britian loses”. That’s B R I T I A N. Wrapper is purple, text is white with the last two words in pale blue. Bar is held from leftbif frame by a hand with red nails, in front of a cream table top.

I honestly don’t know if you’re talking about Britain or Bluesky

Unfortunately I feel that way about a few thousand people on Bluesky :)

So many things could restore trust in the state. Some of them could do it if they were done half-arsed. Some of them you just have to stop doing things that are obnoxious. Why would you start here?

“Of course, writing novels about the future doesn’t give me any special ability to foretell the future. But it does encourage me to use our past and present behaviors as guides to the kind of world we seem to be creating” — Octavia Butler

It’s probably also not ideal that a lot of Brits, seeing this post, are saying “whhhoooa, I had no idea Bluesky was that messed up.”

There are, um, points of similarity.

It troubles me that I’m starting to feel the same way about Bluesky that I do about the UK. Like: it sounds great, and some of the people I know are great, but the leadership is making some weird choices and I’m a bit worried it may all be over in a couple of years.

Yep. Love reading him.

They’re right to be worried. I’m worried too. I have absolutely no idea where this country is headed right now.

Yeah. It’s not good.
