Reminds me a lot of Nick Drake and John Martyn (as heard on something like Solid Air), also a bit of Beck's Morning Phase, but Gunn really found his own voice in this realm of drifting ambient-folk. The opening track might be my favorite song of this year.

I didn't even plan on checking out this new song-based album of his, but wow... I'm really glad I did. The music on this album might be some of the best Steve Gunn I've heard so far.

It's also surprising that a lot of the grooves are so stiff with 3 extremely good drummers in the band. I still love Tortoise of course, but would rather hear a long live-record with them. That would be something.

It's not bad, but it's disappointing. Not conceptually interesting enough and the same goes for the compositionally level. They don't have to make music that breaks new ground, but this is simply too boring and doesn't contain enough great ideas.
