Orchid time! I just got back from the spring show by the Genesee Region Orchid Society in Rochester. I only bought three new ones and that was showing restraint. I didn’t take as many pics as I should have but here’s some highlights.

We found that the Wisconsin and New York populations show little divergence except for a major putative inversion on the Z chromosome. This inversion contains vision-related genes as well as several genes we previously found to be associated with mask or bib size... 3/4

In Wisconsin, females choose to mate with males with larger black face masks, while in New York, females choose males with larger yellow throat bibs. We assessed phenotypic and genomic variation in several yellowthroat populations... 2/4
