I wasn't completely happy with my #kidlitartpostcard this month, so I've been redoing it. Here's the result! I prefer the colour palette here and I also worked as if I were making it traditionally. (My previous version I tried out aaaaallll the new procreate brushes 😅)

A picturebook illustration by Nicola Schofield. It shows a merman artist chipping away at a large sculpture of his pet goldfish. Made in procreate using alcohol markers and pencils.

I keep liking the DVpit posts and then remembering I'm not supposed to 😅

Gorgeous work!

Yay! Love Late Bird so much 🎉

I think I appreciate them in different ways. Close to my work, I think "oh I see what you've done there, very clever!" But far away from my work it's more "how did you do this? It's so beautiful, it must be magic!" 😅

Well, cats don't lay eggs so... 🙃

It's super bugging me that I didn't spell caterfly with two 't's now 😆

I think about this a lot and I wonder if part of why I love the books / illustrations I love is exactly because they are not like what I make.

All those different ways of doing stuff has mystery and magic ✨

I wonder if I did make those types of art, would their magic dull a little for me.

I fall in love with stories that tend to be far from the stuff I draw. I dreamily go, "One day I'll make something like that too!" And then prompty launch myself in the opposite direction.

Woah! Do they have a second house just to store all this the rest of the year? 😅

Something I've been thinking about lately. 😽🐛🦋

#kidlitart #illustration
Illustration showing the lifecycle of a butterfly, except it's a cat / butterfly hybrid and so is the lifecycle of a caterfly. The cycle goes furball to caterpillar to two-week nap to caterfly and then back to furball

So good!

I didn't realise how small the pages are from just the still images.

You might have inspired me to try and fill a tiny sketchbook!

Look at this acorn. So shiny!

It just fell on my head.

A girl witch and a boy sitting down for tea in a pretty garden next to a cottage. There are a handful of frogs around, including on the table. The girl in her purple witches robes is talking animatedly about something while the boy is smiling nervously as he eyes the green steam from his tea and the frog on the table.

Ellen, a sad, 14-year-old ballerina in a pink tutu sitting in a wheelchair. She has blond hair with a hint of the pink dye she had before. Her eyes are aqua in colour. Behind her is an aqua and green background showing lotus flowers in the rain, painted in a watercolour style. Lotus flowers stand for resilience. The background was interpreted from a photograph created by Nguyên Lam Mili found on Pinterest.

Good luck!

I really should do this too!

LATE BIRD is sick of Early Bird getting all the worms--and all the glory. But don't worry, Late Bird has a plan. Forget the alarm clock, this calls for a catapult. Look out world, here comes Late Bird!

Just reading through #kidlitchat from last night and I was about to post the same. I'd say to trust my intuitions more. People will understand and relate to your weird little ideas more than you think.

I think I would tell myself to trust myself more. My spider senses were more accurate than I gave myself credit for. #kidlitchat

I'm told you can switch between the old and new brush sets but I haven't updated yet so I don't know exactly how!
