I signed up to do this reading because I also find it pretty hard rn. I think I'd just like to come out of all this knowing that I neither surrendered in my heart, nor that I allowed them to turn me into someone as bitter and merciless as they are

The real problem with positivism is that it sunders nature from its foundation in the divine, leading to manifold perversities that attack the very foundation of human society: the family. I am of course speaking of that great evil of our present age - civil marriage

Yeah like it kinda works if you're a poststructuralist who sees bodies as texts etc but they'd probs just dismiss that as woke postmodernist nonsense

These people claim to be in touch with the Real of human nature then turn around and say that metaphorical ejaculation is a "bodily reality"

I genuinely can't decide if I love or hate that album, but it's impossible to be anything in between

Also like this was Wicked 2. It's a PG. Imagine being kicked out of Guides so your parents take you to the cinema to cheer you up and then "hey give us some money so we can make your life even worse pls". Honestly. Maybe I'm just making up a person here, but it would be a kick in the fucking teeth

It's fundamentally unjust to make your cinema a hostile space for trans people for the sake of appealing to cis people, as if we are acceptable casualties for something as stupid as selling another version of a decades-old series of books.

And I know I'm just not the target audience for the ad. But then it's either an expression of carelessness, as if they didn't think trans people would be in the physical audience, complacency, as if they didn't think it worthwhile to consider it, or just not caring. Either way, it's enraging.

In indulging this controversy, OU are allying themselves to these attacks. They are declaring that they will not support trans staff, instead allowing themselves to become instruments for disciplining trans people uppity enough to occupy positions of expertise and authority. /end

That is to say, the only thing distinguishing it from those other cases is that it's an attack on a trans member of staff, initiated during a time when trans people are the targets of a sustained political campaign to eliminate them from public life. 4/

The point here is that OU staff will have written this response *countless* times already without even a hint that it might be inappropriate. What distinguishes this case from all those others is that it's been pushed into the public eye as propaganda (& was probably written for this purpose). 3/

It stems from their struggling to distinguish between the kinds of discourses appropriate to their faith community and university contexts. I wouldn't be surprised if other disciplines have their own versions of those students, too. 2/
