Like what do you MEAN I can hold my own in a conversation?? unheard of lol
nictendo64.bsky.social
I feel like in the last few months I’ve had a mindset shift away from believing I didn’t know things and wasn’t capable of intellectual and nuanced conversation after such a long time being belittled and made to feel like a dumb ass
nictendo64.bsky.social
Yeah I absolutely agree
nictendo64.bsky.social
okay this being said though, every now and again a song has popped up and i'm like "yes absolutely checks out"
nictendo64.bsky.social
but every decade prior to the 2000s (and especially the 2010s) has a very clear line of trends but now there's so much around and everyones expperience is so personal it's genuinely so difficult to identify a "key sound" to encapsulate the two decades, like i don't really think you can
nictendo64.bsky.social
get ur freak on is a pretty apt #1 though because i feel like missy elliot was a massive pioneer in culture and hip hop and really changed the game

so rolling stone has put out their top 250 greatest songs of the 21st century so far and whilst i haven't properly gone through it yet, i feel like it's going to be very hard to have a definite opinion on it especially given the 2000s saw the death of the monoculture
nictendo64.bsky.social
i fucking choked reading this it's so real
nictendo64.bsky.social
i guess the thing about kpop is that it's also a completely different culture?? like they way kpop fans connect is completely different, whether it's better or worse is up for debate but it's still very different

the fucking ATO is the bane of my existence. god forbid i just want to do my work without having consistent errors
nictendo64.bsky.social
i'm all for choices when it comes to buying someones art, but it should be just that. choice. i personally find it really exciting when i go into a record store to buy an album and i don't know which variant i'm gonna get, but i still leave it at one purchase bc any more would be unnecessary
nictendo64.bsky.social
the way she markets i find cold and lifeless - like there's barely any change in the contents it's just a different cover, and people will just blindly go and buy it?? also the calculated release dates of different variants to coincide with other pop releases is incredibly transparent
nictendo64.bsky.social
it's fucked but its very interesting
nictendo64.bsky.social
yeah i've heard people advertise their stuff on booktopia so i'm guessing it came back from the dead?
nictendo64.bsky.social
its giving payola lmao (which they do actually do - artists can give up 30% of their streaming revenue to get pushed in radio)
nictendo64.bsky.social
yeah literally - i feel like 8/10 playlists that come up on my feed are algorithmic and they're all just variations of the same playlist, it's just lazy and unnecessary and really shows that it's not a platform that appreciates music (it literally never was)
nictendo64.bsky.social
the amount of data they farm from your listening to create algorithms based on your tastes and everything is pretty much akin to them sitting in the corner of your bedroom and watching you sleep, it's fucking whack
