The administration most likely planned this and put him up to it. I suspect they told him if he did not do follow through, he would be deported back to Afghanistan and expose his past.

If I were in the military, I would be running for the door as soon as my contract was up. Dept of Defense was about protecting American citizens. Dept of War has gone to war against Americans.
