I've just been scrolling in the racist cesspit that used to be Twitter. I came away feeling that I was in 1930s Germany but with Muslims replacing Jews as the targets of hate. It was both repulsive and deeply depressing.

Who else finds that too much social media can damage their mental health, or is it just X? I went back on it to respond to a post and it's turned into a cesspit of bigotry and hate. I would encourage anyone to keep off it as much as possible.

Am I alone in finding the anti migrant and racial minority rhetoric tiresome and depressing...as well as the false victimhood when someone calls it out as far right or racist? Migrants benefit the country and always have...and no, that doesn't make me unpatriotic.

I was in Singapore for New Year 2023-4. In an MRT station was a sign saying "Singapore says Happy New Year and thank you to its migrant workers". Could you imagine that sign anywhere in the UK (or some other countries)?

Can someone explain why advocating for starving people to be fed- that is, asking that the people denying the food (the Israeli government) release it- is anti-Semitic? I can't see the connection; maybe I'm stupid.

I'm still minded to avoid the US while the Mango Mussolini is in charge: there are too many stories of visitor arrests and deportations for saying the wrong thing in a post or for visa errors...but yesterday has given me hope that maybe I will go there again sometime.

I've been to countries such as China and Sudan, and I never had to worry about what I'd posted on my phone: very Orwellian.

Does it feel surreal that the USA no longer appears an ally of the UK or any other European country at the moment. The USA is also becoming a scary place to visit, with the ICE deportations, arrests and detentions of foreign nationals.

That offer to Trump of UK State Visit may only have been a diplomatic coup on Thursday. Since Friday a petition to pull the invite has already gained nearly 2 million signatures. Looks like the British public don't want the King to lay down the red carpet to the Orange Felon.
