Me when I hand lube my switches
Frank Reynolds from it’s always sunny in Philadelphia covered in lube and in his underwear on the ground looking up. Text: “why do you do this to yourself?” “I just want to be pure.”

“There was no autism in my day.”

How the hell do you think we got to the moon?
autcraft.com
"There was no autism in my day."

Sure there was but back then you called people the r-word, slow, unfocused, anti-social, weird, freak, or any number of other derogatory terms. Or you just didn't see them at all because they were separated off into other classes or institutions.

It’s a bubble that’ll make 2008 look tiny.

Make of this what you will, always interesting to see it quantified.

People refusing to get vaccinated, which harms society overall, has to be dealt with. “Your rights end where my rights begin” isn’t just a thing to say, it’s a good principle for democracy. If your actions cause harm, then you can’t do those actions.
nihildev.bsky.social
Liberals in peacetime forgot that sometimes you have to use that monopoly on violence to ensure a democratic order. It’s a paradox in liberalism, but one early liberals and those who had to fight for the liberal order absolutely had no problem tackling.

And that’s construction and plays with NY mechanisms around that whole industry- but still, that feeds into overall costs.

Okay, but there is corruption and waste in the MTA. A lot of it doesn’t initiate from the MTA and happens at a higher level out of their control, but there’s still some waste caused by the executives. There were a lot of favors and a lot of hands in the pie on the second ave line.
nihildev.bsky.social
Right, NOW it wouldn’t do anything. But in the 80s and 90s it would have stifled A LOT of this. Like, a dam bursting yeah, it’s a little late to say “we should reinforce the dam.” Too late. But it’s not wrong to say “the next dam we build needs to be reinforced.”

There’s a lot of this Reagan wouldn’t have done that he and others are still responsible for. Even if not directly, a lot of people helped lay the foundation of where we are. It didn’t just spur up out of nowhere.

Those two points aren’t mutually exclusive.
whstancil.bsky.social
He wasn’t, and if it’s “defending” him to note he never would have done most of this, I guess I’ll defend him.
ruku9.bsky.social
Don't even try and defend Reagan. He was the beginning of all this.

Falling in the same category doesn’t mean they’re interchangeable. All fascism is authoritarianism, not all authoritarianism is fascism. What we’re facing is facial by definition. If you can’t even understand that then you’re not qualified for this conversation.
nihildev.bsky.social
You’re like those people who say “we’re a republic, not a democracy” as if those are describing the same mechanisms.
nihildev.bsky.social
You think there’s a difference between the two? lol

Fascism falls under the broad category of authoritarianism. It’s not something different or something compared to it - it’s within the category.

Fucking hell man, maybe study this stuff and read some books first.

People are currently being taken, imprisoned, and likely killed. No trials. No charges.

Jesus fucking Christ, how do you bury your head this deep in the sand?
nihildev.bsky.social
Thing about reality is it doesn’t need to be acknowledged in order to be real.

Wish more people saw this.
nihildev.bsky.social
We have people being locked up with charges for just speaking out. We have the military being deployed against citizens.

It’s fascism. This is fascism by every definition. You have to nuance fascism to a point even the Nazis aren’t fascist to avoid saying we don’t have a fascist regime.
nihildev.bsky.social
If it’s killing you, it’s not pre-cancerous. Hope that gets through your idiot brain.
nihildev.bsky.social
It’s low stakes though. If it fails you go back to charging. If it works, then you benefit.

We need a government that’s willing to experiment and try things, but willing to walk it back if it fails. But we need an electorate willing to partake in that approach. Zohran brings that.

I based this on my experience living in New York even though I no longer live there.

Single guy who wasn’t in a rent controlled apartment. No kids. Even then, that’s a pretty good savings.

I say that as someone skeptical of free busses. I’d still vote for it, but I’m skeptical it’ll work.

If you have cancer and believe you don’t have cancer as a way to try and stay positive, you’ll still have cancer.

Same is true of fascism.

Gonna take him up on the challenge. Not because I don’t like him speaking Spanish, but because I’m ashamed I don’t know Spanish. I should. I’ve lived in Spanish-speaking communities and have been near conversational.

Four months is enough time to get back in the swing of it.
phillewis.bsky.social
Bad Bunny responds to his Super Bowl critics in Spanish, and then English: “And, if you didn’t understand know what I just said, you have four months to learn!”
nihildev.bsky.social
I have a base in Greek and Latin, plus I’ve lived in Spanish-speaking communities. I have no excuse other than laziness. I’ve taught myself coding languages which, while different, is a shockingly similar concept.

So a good challenge.

The personality type of a fascist is either enamored by money/power (majority) or they’re deep, deep ideologues (minority).

Most fascists are crass, self-centered opportunists. It’s why corruption is a feature in any fascist regime.
faelsun.bsky.social
The Fascist International actually works because the ideology is malleable, they have infinite money, and instead of tearing each other down they focus on Being Evil

So you’re equating “Jew” with “Zionist” here…you realize that, right?

“It’s the only way to make money!”

Then we need a new business model. If theft is the only way to profit, you’re not running a business.

The most discouraging thing in web development is building a gorgeous, functional site and then watching it get eaten up by ads and spyware.

twenty years ago spam was a bad thing that the DOE issued bulletins about & built countermeasures against. now the bulk of human software engineering capital is oriented towards producing more of it faster.
