Someone told me the type of brain I have means I have a poor sense of self so expecting me to write this is very ableist actually. SE London. Some kind of regulator and that still surprises me.
Undermining the diagnosis worries me because a) it denies the argument that employers *should want* to employ the neurodiverse b) it obscures that there are tradeoffs to be made. You don’t get the brilliant bits of me without grudging acceptance that there are things I won’t do as well.

The things that I am really good at in an office context feel to me inseparable from my neurodivergence and I think people with the other one that keeps being mentioned might say the same. You would not want me anywhere near something that requires perfect replication but q good at problem-solving

I mean the real workplace accommodation I need is ‘don’t worry about filling in timesheets’ but thus far I have not been able to pull this off and have to compensate for my admin uselessness by being brilliant elsewhere. This works until it doesn’t.

*nor, actually, for my other condition. My ADHD is as real to me and impacts my life as much as Crohn’s. But hey, perhaps we’ll get to the debate whether that one’s imaginary some day soon too. I can’t see anything wrong with you, are you sure your immune system is ravaging your insides?

I don’t receive any benefits related to my condition* and the accommodations I need are minor and can normally be secured informally. From here it’s very difficult to see why accuracy of diagnosis is going to be scrutinised rather than whether things might be going wrong elsewhere

Well y’know I think MPMP is okay. In terms of judgment he seems to me an upgrade over his predecessor. But I don’t know his mind or heart and you remind me that I haven’t done enough to make clear the thoughts of at least one of his constituents to him.

All of our pessimism, no matter what our individual politics, just seems to glance off his passivity. Howling into the void but the void has an actual shape and a name this time.

Had been having a conversation earlier with husband v similar to one that it turns out was playing through Stephen Bush’s mentions: ok, I don’t like Starmer at all myself but why is he so extravagantly & widely hated? And now I feel like it’s become clearer to me:

As I reflect further on yesterday’s experiences I cannot decide whether it is a failure of tact or an admirable absence of hypocrisy that accounts for the restaurant at Malta’s National Aquarium having a dedicated sushi menu
