The correct tariff policy would be to force large foreign companies to submit audited financials and then have a floating calculated tariff that offsets subsidies etc. This prevents market flooding like BYD. Arguably calculated against currency manipulation but that’s impossible to calculate.

Now that Chinese policy makers have banned facial recognition without consent, I am betting on stronger IP law enforcement in the next 2 years as they capitalize on Trump’s weekend to draw foreign innovation and talent. They may also soften social credit score or rebrand it.

The unaddressed part of the Trump/NATO underspending discussion is that nobody seriously believes that Trump would come to the defence of any NATO country triggering Article 5. The US will inevitably treat it as mandatory for its allies and optional for itself.
