Specifically, it's because of the high prices of gas and how the pricing model works in ih the European energy mix.
Renewables can be multiple times cheaper at any specific hour but the price will still be limited by the high price of gas.

Also, the richest underestimate their own carbon footprint. The below graphic shows how Poland fares in relation to GDP compared to the richer and poorer ccountries.
We are in the top ~14% (PKB in the graph means GDP).
So when people say that "only the top 10-20% should do it" - this is the answer.
