The design is interesting, but these are macbook pro prices for something that doesn’t really replace it. It folds and is portable but doesn’t have a display so can’t really take it away from a desk.
It does have a space to stash things which is cool.

From an app architecture pov option 2 makes more sense to me, but I get hung up on your last sentence. It would transfer power from the PDS (user owned) to the app (third-party owned). I think keeping that power in the hands of the user is more in spirit of decentralization.
