Fall Landscape
Oil on Birch Panel
8"x10"
2023

Another painting based on a local urban trail. I'm lucky to live in a city with an extensive system of trails and ravines running through it. My job keeps me tied to the city, but hitting the trails and painting both allow me to escape when I need to.

I had a lot of fun painting this one.

Road Through Trees, 12"x12" Oil on Birch Panel, 2023

I painted this in the summer, but it's always given me a "long drive down a deserted road in early November" kind of vibe.

Forest Edge, 12"x12" Oil on Birch Panel, 2023

All my paintings start with a reference, but just as a jumping-off point. Once I have a few basic shapes down, I improvise, and some paintings come easier than others. This one was hard to get right, but I'm really happy with the final result.

Valley with Poplars, 8"x10" Oil on Birch Panel, 2023

Based on a trail I used to walk in the Yukon. Usually by the time I finish a painting I hate it and can't stand to look at it for at least a few weeks, but I've always been happy with how this one turned out.

Treeline, 8"x10" oil on birch panel, 2023

This one is very loosely based on my time in the Yukon. The place I worked at had a ridge behind the property where they had placed some fake mountain goats for tourists to take pictures of. I didn't care for the goats but I thought the treeline was pretty.

Three Trees, 8"x10" Oil on Birch Panel, 2023

I normally work in film but with the double strikes this summer I've had a lot of time to create new art. I'm going to start posting my paintings here.
