Latinos sadly do have a tendency of being more conservative than progressive.

And this is only talking about political thought. Racism is very indeed alive here.

I have met people who will find it insulting to be called "moreno" because they want to be "blanco" so bad.

You will find most evangelical christians here hold the most conservative beliefs in comparison to other groups.

Just the other year, Panama rejected a motion in their congress to legalize same sex marriage. In many latin countries, women do not have reproductive rights and LGBT+ lack their own

I would even bet most latinos see Pinochet's dictatorship as a needed evil to "save us from communism".

And yes, US interventionism has to do with that. They promoted the rise of evangelical thought because of the rise of the catholic "Theology of liberation".

I do not think we are "naturally" conservative, but our region has been under the ideological influence of the #1 capital empire in the world.

If you ask any latino, most will show a disdain for Cuba, for the past Venezuelan regime, for Ortega, for Allende.

"Communist" is an insult in most nations

For every left wing latino in our region you can find 4 or 5 conservatives. There is a reason more than half of South America voted for right wing, even nazi, presidents.

Look at the sandinista takeover for example, all of the contras were other latinos enlisting to take down a comunist State.
