I got it working. After making sure the console at home was marked as my home console. My son had to log me out of my profile. He was logged into his profile, but he never signed my profile out. After my profile was signed out, I was able to connect to a cloud enabled game and he could join my party

I wish they had just kept the Family plan that I read about. @xbox.com it's hard to travel with a console, and my son loves being able to play with me, and I have to travel a lot for this new job.
