Engineer, author, algorithmically a ghost.
Dreamt that, in the middle of a death metal concert, the late IZ came on stage to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and the crowd locked arms and sang along. That's the kind of energy I'm craving right now.

People act like genAI is a defictionalized alethiometer. But genAI couldn't be further from being an alethiometer. For one, an alethiometer literally runs on consciousness!

Oi, I'm John McLemon and this me bandmate Ringi the Tingi, and we're the Weevils. Gonna play you a song called "Lucy in the Sky with Strawberry Fields (Forever)." It's a prog rock song, with chord changes and stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of King's Field, but the Queen's Domain demo scratches an itch.

What is the point of the "do not send me marketing e-mail" option in online order pages if no businesses honor it?

My 32-bit CPU lives! Still dealing with simulation vs. on-FPGA operation differences, but that's just debugging.

Pictured: baseline instruction behavior testing program at the end of floating point tests, viewed via the built-in debug monitor.

Next big step is getting program A/V data on screen!

Anyone want to hire a computer engineer who specifically hates tech circlejerk trends, and will actually write embedded system code that works? I have 15 years' experience in embedded C, ARM asm, VHDL, Verilog; desktop development in C, C++, C# and Python.

What if, in the afterlife, we must choose one person to spend eternity with. But, you only get to be with them if they choose you as well. Can you bear the weight of everyone you must scorn? Can you bear the weight of choosing someone who does not reciprocate?

The Bandcamp subscription music service having "buy more music" in the URL is a laugh and a half. Waiting for the other enshittified shoe to drop, regarding what this implies about the discovery page...

The most unbelievable sci fi trope is that technology still works after being duct taped together and buried in peat moss for millenia. I can't even find a water heater that lasts 10 years.

I realized that my CPU design could easily translate from the MiSTer framework to a dedicated PCB, but I also don't have quite the level of circuit design knowledge to handle the analog side of things. And an enclosure? lol

Man, I need some EE and ME friends to help in these types of moments...

I wrote a comic today with an "I need you to take a picture with your ass out..."-like moment that veers between NSFW and Hot Fuzz. It probably is only funny to me, but I laughed so hard I was crying while writing it.

I hate hearing people say "this could improve in the future" as a hand wave for genAI's factual incorrectness. Up to fundamental limits, anything can be improved. But people also need to accept the present rather than rely on a nebulous future!

Decided to go through some VESA specs and compare GTF timings against industry standard timings and... sheesh. Display timings are even more of a mess than originally anticipated. I'll stick to a table lookup, thank you.

Angered by the day, putting my frustrations into learning how regexes work so I can build my own regex parser as part of a larger less sane project.

I have done so many "simple text parsers" over the years, regexes were overdue.

There is a security company called Samsara. I am tempted to apply as Siddhartha Guatama and say "I have been here before, for many reincarnations in fact. It seems that it is difficult to escape samsara."

After wondering what show Homelander was from, I finally got around to watching the first two seasons of The Boys. I have mixed feelings, but at least I understand why it's only ever been on the periphery of recommendations to me.
