NWT LTER researchers-- who often have their nose to the ground as they collect data on plants, insects, and soil-- are trained to look up on a regular basis to check for thunderstorms... and moose! Recent work suggests that these powerful ungulates are indeed native to Colorado!

During much of the last century, moose were apparently rare in Colorado. But lately, encounters with humans are becoming more common as the population increases.
